Leicester City 2 Carlisle United 2Attendance: 20,159 League One leaders Leicester City continued the unsteady form in the promotion run-in, when they were held at home by lowly Carlisle United which is the 6th draw in 7 home league games. Not exactly promotion form. The Foxes conceded a suspect goal deep in injury time 92nd minute which saw their lead over second-placed Posh reduced to two points which really beggers belief. The game started with both teams looking to force an opening and the Foxes were defied by a series of fine saves by Carlisle keeper Ben Williams especially from Matty Fryatt who missed a guilt edged chance. The Cumbrians reaped the rewards in the 32nd minute after stunning the Walkers Stadium by taking a shock lead. Graham Kavanagh played a through ball which sliced the City defence like butter and allowed old horse Michael Bridges to run on and slip a 16-yard shot beyond the suspect goalkeeper Tony Warner. The home team then battled hard for an equaliser but couldn't find a way past Williams who was in inspired form in the first half, who tipped over Matt Oakley's 25-yard pile driver and then somehow clawed away Matty Fryatt's close-range flick. The Cumbrians keeper was finally beaten on 52 minutes when Dyer's low cross found Matt Oakley, who fired home a fierce shot from ten yards with the keeper having not a chance in hell of stopping it. Losing the lead galvanised the visitors who had a series of chances but seems to have no idea of where the goal was at one point it looked as if the would have been better playing rugby such were the misses!, however, did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of Carlisle, who went close when Bridges shot narrowly wide and Cleveland Taylor drove just over. But, thereafter, THE FOXES dominated but struggled to break down the resolute Cumbrians, who were a top 6 team last year and not an easy opposition especially with all 11 men behind the ball. Andy King threatened on 85 minutes, but his 25-yard drive was tipped away by Williams yet again with a class save. THE FOXES finally got themselves in front on the 88th minute when, from a quick break involving Liverpool loanee Astrit Ajdarevic and King, Dyer crossed for Matty Fryatt to head home what appeared to be City's winner, the crowd seemed to think this was the winner. With time added on (3) the home side switched off to allow Scott Dobie to convert Michael Liddle's cross with an unmarked header, WHICH ON CLOSER INSPECTION should the Leicester's defenders expected to be awarded a free kick and stood off trying to run the clock down, but instead the referee changed his mind and allowed play to go on for Scott Dobie to take advantage and convert Michael Liddle's cross with a free header. Cheers ref! (Michael Oliver) After the final whistle the draw seemed insignificant to a section of the crowd as a FOX fan seemed to have life saving treatment in the east stand. Whatever the result it didn’t look good and LCFC WORLD doesn’t want to speculate on what happened as it has no right to do so. |
